What is Heritage for the Blind?

So, we've been enduring the most God-aweful commercial for a place called Heritage for the Blind. They're trying to get people to donate their cars. The commercial has the most horrid song. Some of the lyrics are, "Heritage for the blind reminds you to be kind. Call 1 800 donate cars today." It says something about those who depend on you too or something like that. It's a complete earworm too. ug.
Anyway, after hearing it for the umpteenth time, I tried to get info on line. The only thing I saw was some org out of New York that had been investigated for fraud.
My hubby called the number just out of curiousity and told them that we were blind and wanted to know about their services. The number you call is the donation call center so they passed him to someone, supposedly with the organization. We never got a call back after leaving a voicemail message.
Why would we in Texas donate our cars to an org out of New York when there are zillions of blindness related orgs here?
I'm just wondering if any of you have ever heard of this organization. Nosy minds want to know.

Nope, it doesn't sound familiar.

It's a scam commercial.

A better organization would be "Heretics for the blind," one dedicated to the blasphemy and desecration of all those ideologies and fantasies about us. Whether it's the helpless thing, the thing about people thinking we're there to take advantage of them, or the super thing. They're all variants on the same miscreant theme anyway. What would the theme song to that be? Hammer Smashed Face? I Light The fire?

DG, I can only assume it must be a scam. I have several close friends who have heard what I'm sure is the same commercial, and tried to investigate it both online and by calling the number. No one has been able to find out anything. So yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a scam.
